Built by Sensation Yachts in New Zealand PHILKADE was delivered to her owner in 1986 (named AQUEL II) and last refitted in 2017. An iconic Dubois design, she was the first from the renowned designer and the yacht with which he made his mark on the industry. Conceived as the ultimate fast cruiser, she is as rewarding to the eye as she is to sail. At her time of her build, the cutter-rigged PHILKADE was the largest sloop in the world. Her revolutionary exterior profile boasts a striking blue aluminium hull complemented by a classic white aluminium superstructure, has not aged and she still commands a significant presence when presented with her full sails.
Performance wise, PHILKADE has a comfortable cruising speed of 12 knots and can reach speeds of up to 14 knots under full sail. With excellent sea-handling capabilities, she has circumnavigated the world and proven to be a safe, economical, comfortable sailing yacht with a history of fast ocean passages.
PHILKADE exudes elegance and character in every detail. The magnificent craftsmanship throughout her interior and exterior provides a luxurious superyacht style. Her recently refit interior is a vision of tranquillity and beauty, making full use of space in a contemporary design. Her raised deck-saloon has become a Dubois trademark. Tastefully decorated with guests’ comfort foremost in mind, the large space is a comfortable home from home, with a circular sofa and dining area. Oak woods are used throughout her interior, complemented with light soft furnishings. The main salon is large for a sailing yacht and boasts a comfortable seating and dining area, with steps down to the guests sleeping area aft and the galley and crew quarters forward.
Her accommodation includes a master suite, a further double cabin and two twin bedded cabins, one with a Pullman berth, accommodating nine guests in total. All cabins are spacious and finished to the same high standards as all the guest areas. She is also capable of carrying up to six crew on board to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.

Proceeding aft of the forward collision bulkhead is the forward crew cabin with port and starboard upper berths, each with storage lockers below that can be reconverted back to crew berths very easily. There is hanging locker storage and bookshelf against the forward bulkhead. Built-in storage also exists underneath the berths. Further aft to starboard is the crew head with basin, WC and overhead hatch. The shower room is opposite to port. Proceeding further aft on the centerline, there are mirror image crew cabins. To starboard is the captain's cabin with lower double berth, inboard desk with bookcase and hanging locker storage. Forward of the captain’s cabin to starboard is the captain's ensuite with WC, basin and shower. Opposite to port is an identical cabin for use by an engineer and/or chef. This cabin also has an ensuite forward to port with WC, basin, shower and overhead hatch. There is separate crew access to the deck. The captain and engineer cabins can easily be converted to guest double cabins with the captain and engineer moved forward. Proceeding further aft, there is excellent crew access to the foredeck via a built-in companionway. Adjoining the companionway to port, is the crew mess with table seating for 6. The Maytag washer/dryer is furthest aft in this area and outboard to port.
The crew mess leads to a large and very well laid out galley. Against the forward bulkhead are two stand-up stainless steel Sub Zero refrigerators and freezers. There are six storage cupboards above and a warming oven underneath. There is a deep, double stainless steel sink with center sink and further aft against the aft galley bulkhead is extensive counter space with Kitchen Aid trash compactor and stainless steel dishwater under and oven above. Opposite to starboard are two Whirlpool self-cleaning ovens. On the centerline in the galley is a built-in hydraulic lifting wine cellar capable of storing four cases of wine at correct temperatures.
Proceeding aft from the galley is the light and airy main saloon. In the forward starboard corner is a bar area complete with excellent storage, sink, built-in icemaker etc. on the starboard side of the main saloon is a large U-shaped leather settee with movable easy end chairs. There is a burled ash coffee table surrounding this starboard settee. In the forward portion of the main saloon to port is the burled ash dining table which seats 8.
Outboard and forward to port in the main saloon is a built-in china and silver storage and slightly further aft is the entertainment center which has Sony, NEC and Pioneer equipment. The stereo system on board is driven by a Surround Sound Inc. system through Hafler 960 amplifiers. The Sony color TV is to port and raises and lowers via electrical screw jack and is in good viewing range of the starboard U-shaped settee area.
In the port after section of the main saloon is a companionway to the pilothouse. At the main saloon’s aft bulkhead centerline is the owner’s well equipped office & communications room. The office has a comfortable desk and excellent storage. Opposite to port of the office is the owner’s gallery complete with fridge, freezer, two-hob stove with overhead grill, microwave/convection oven, small washing machine and dryer, sink unit and ample storage.
Aft of the office is the study that can be converted. When this area is in the “study” mode a queen size berth is very cleverly recessed in the joinery work and outboard of a comfortable sofa. This cabin includes a full width desk with built-in storage for a large amount of equipment. There is an ensuite bathroom.
Opposite to port is an additional guest stateroom, again with ensuite bathroom, with forward facing twin berths. There is a large cedar lined hanging locker with built-in drawer storage.
The owner’s stateroom is, without question, one of the finest ever conceived on a yacht of this size and type. Across the aft bulkhead are three cedar lined, full headroom wardrobes. The two outboard wardrobes are for clothes storage. The centerline wardrobe has a large 30’’ Panasonic TV with Panasonic video on the upper level with drawers fitted below for video storage. Proceeding forward on the outboard sides are large chest drawers, built-in night tables and 2 beds, a double bed to port, and a single to starboard. The interior of the owner’s stateroom is finished with gray lacquer and coordinated fabrics.
